1.Germany announced its decision to phase out its all the nuclear plants by 2022. This decision, prompted by Japan’s Fukushima nuclear disaster, will make Germany the first major industrialized nation to go nuclear-free.
2.The environmental agency of Brazil, Ibama gave final approval on 1 June 2011 for a hydroelectric power plant in the Amazon rain forest. Ibama granted a license to the North Energy consortium for the Belo Monte dam. It would be the world’s third largest dam and it could generate 11200 megawatts of electricity. The total cost to build the dam would be around 17 billion dollars.
3.A Japanese supercomputer, K Computer built by Fujitsu Co. grabbed the title of world's best-performing machine.
4.Rafael Nadal defeated Roger Federer to Win the French Open (Tennis championship) Men,s Single Title .
5.President of Yemen, Ali Abdullah Saleh, on 5 June 2011 left for Saudi Arabia for medical treatment and thus ended his 33-year rule over the nation. On 3 June 2011 he was injured in a rocket attack by the rival group.

13.Northern Ireland prodigy Rory McIlroy captured his first Major golf title with his victory in the 111th U.S. Open on 19 June 2011.
14.FIFA’s vice-president Jack Warner was forced out of the executive of FIFA, the Zurich-based governing body of world football. Jack Warner who was the central figure in recent bribery allegations resigned from his post on 20 June 2011.
15.The United Nations General Assembly on 21 June 2011 agreed to appoint former South Korean foreign minister Ban Ki-moon to a second consecutive term as the Secretary-General of the 192-member Organization. Under the resolution adopted by acclamation, Ban’s second term will run from 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2016.He has been in office since January 2007. He had succeeded Kofi Annan of Ghana. Ban is the eighth person to serve as UN chief.
16.Six Indian sailors, who were among the 22-member crew of MV Suez held captive by Somali pirates for nearly 10 months, reached Karachi on 23 June 2011

20.The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) called for Action on Nuclear Safety in a concluding session of an international ministerial conference in Vienna.
21.The Sri Lankan Central Bank Monetary Board on 27 June 2011 announced that Chinese Renminbi would be included in the list of designated currencies permitted for international transactions through banks in Sri Lanka.
