GAIL INDIA Ltd. for telemetry.
Test Consists of Two Sections:
1.) Technical i.e.
2.) Aptitude (Eng., Logical Reasoning, G.K., etc.)
1.) Technical:-
It consists of 100 ques.
In this time's paper, most of the question were based on tecnhicalsubjects,
2.)Aptitude:-
This section was really very easy!!!
A basic knowledge of mathematical formulas will help to solve all the aptitude questions!!!
Although G.K. was a bit tough for me!!!
The paper consisted of 150 questions MCQ including G.K,Tech and aptitude and time was 2 hrs.
100 questions technical, 50 aptitude +G.K
This exam was different from all others govt. exam. There is no questions from our main subject like digital, analog and other important subjects. The questions were purely based on data comm.. & computer n/w. and some questions were from coding like m-ary, fec, Manchester etc. it was totally unexpected. The time duration was 2 hrs and the total qs 150. There were no negative marking. The technical part consists of 100 qs. & the general awareness part is of 50 qs.
Most of the questions were based on DCN (digital communication and networking) and the electromechanical instruments as I applied fort he post of Telemetry(E.T)
Some of the questions that i can remember is that of
section 1:
1) what are the steps of transfer of the frames.
options: common words,data words,hexadecimal words,mixed words.
2) the second step of sending data by frames.
3)what is inserted in the frames
Options: common words,hexadecimal,data sync words,framesync words.
About 7-8 questions were framed on just the content of the frame for sending data and also the encryption as well as the decryption words used
4)other questions(small numericals) were on the sampling frequency,sampling rate,number of levels and some questions on the digital communication concepts like PCM,PWM,PAM
5)numerical questions on the modulation depth/index, carrier amplitude of that of AM,FM,max. deviation
6)questions on electromechanical instruments were quite simple.
a)which of the following works on AC/DC.
options: tachometer,piezoelectric substance,photomultiplier tubes,thermocuple.
b)which needs external excitation.
options: thermocouple,resistance guage,photomultiplier tubes,piezoelectric substance.
7)questions on telemetry,data acquisition systems(process flowchart-what comes next......after first step),ethernet,internet,TCP/IP protocols,OSI layers functionality.
section 2
This section was total gk section quizzing about the day to day happenings,ministers,business partnerships/alliance,company owners,stake holders
section 3
This section was based on the general aptitude + english
1)general aptitude: easy questions on profit/loss,partnerships,ratios,age problems,identifying the odd figure out from
4 figures,finding 4th figure from the 3 given figures,logical questions on sequencing and arranging,ranks.
2)english was easy with a small and easy R.C,fill in the blanks with proper articles,words nearest in meaning to the given word
Technical part………

4-6 on figure problem
6 questions based on passage
4 based on articles
8-10 questions based on general awareness
Who is named as black pearl – pele, maradonna etc.
5-6 based on profit loss, work-time,percentage
Question paper consists of 2 sections.

The paper is moderate, not too easy or not too difficult. The peculiar thing i observed is they gave questions from all subjects question paper covered all subjects like Digital design, Network Theory, Communication(digital and analog), electrical measurements, electronics measurements, antennas, optical communication, microwave, electronic devices etc.
We can't neglect any subject. I observed more questions from electronic & electrical measurements, optical comm, antennas.
General Awareness is easy only. Aptitude all can do.
Out of 50 nearly 45 everyone can do.
Some of the technical questions are as below:
1) One question on image signal frequency.
2) Find channel capacity given s/n ration and B.W
3) In resonant ckt value of capacitance, give 'Q' value and 'w' value
4) In digital E5 decimal equivalent?
5) For FET find gain
6) 2 stage cascaded gain BW product is________of single stage gain BW product
1) less 2) more 3) same
7) Short waves range
8) More wavelength for which waves
1) X rays 2) Y rays 3) UV
9) Which connects 'n' input and gives 'n' outputs?
Ans: Modem
10) Which have more fan out?
Ans: CMOS
11) One question on feedback gain formula
12) 'Q' value,'Qdash' value given what will be values of J=? K=?
13) Which is delay flipflop?
Ans: D-flipflop

Part: 2
Includes every thing. Total 50 questions in that questions are from general awareness, aptitude, verbal and non verbal.
The syllabus is entirely different. The GAILl authorities will display the tenantive syllabus 2 weeks before the exam and there is a -ve marking of 0.25. So prepare well.
